Bangladeshi flight makes emergency landing in Nagpur due to technical issues

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka to Dubai made an emergency landing at Nagpur airport around midnight on Wednesday due to technical issues. The flight, carrying 396 passengers and 12 crew members, was forced to divert after encountering difficulties midair, officials confirmed on Thursday.

A senior official at the airport stated that the flight crew reported the issue while airborne, prompting immediate coordination for an emergency landing. Fortunately, the landing was executed without incident, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew. Arrangements are currently being made for their onward journey on an alternative aircraft scheduled to depart later in the day.

Nagpur airport has seen several such unscheduled landings in recent months. In January 2024, two international flights were diverted due to adverse weather conditions. One such instance involved an Ethiopian Airlines flight (ET 680) from Addis Ababa to Dhaka, which was forced to land in Nagpur at 4.30 am due to low visibility. The flight, initially scheduled to reach Dhaka on Sunday morning, faced a 16-hour delay, with passengers accommodated in a local hotel before resuming their journey.

Another similar case occurred when an IndiGo flight (6E 2788) from Delhi to Kolkata had to divert to Nagpur due to poor visibility. The aircraft, which departed Delhi at 2.30 am, was supposed to land in Kolkata at 4.30 am but had to reroute. After a two-hour delay, it finally reached its destination at 6.30 am.

While technical issues are uncommon, aviation experts emphasize that such emergency landings are precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety. The aviation authorities at Nagpur airport have reiterated their readiness to handle diversions and emergencies efficiently.

This latest incident reinforces Nagpur’s strategic importance as a safe diversion hub for flights in distress, ensuring swift responses to unforeseen midair situations.
